Does anyone know the approximate population of the village of Courcellette on the Somme line today? I visited recently and guess it to be around 200 people, but I'm not sure.

As one of them, I can tell you that at the last count there were 138 people in Courcelette. The population has been going down, like most Somme villages, in the last decade or so. One of the main farms closed last year, as the owner retired. Pretty typical of most of rural France, I suspect.

Photos of Courcellette, 2004...

Paul: By the way, what's the population of the cemetery there. I recall circa 2000, but my photo of the plaque didn't turn out.
