Michael Posted 17 May , 2003 Share Posted 17 May , 2003 I've noticed from service records that when the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles were absorbed into the 10th Bn Buffs, the men retained their cavalry rate of pay. Some were also demoted. Can you tell me how much extra money they would have got as cavalrymen. Thanks Michael
Terry_Reeves Posted 17 May , 2003 Share Posted 17 May , 2003 Michael Just as an indication: In 1910 the daily rate of pay for an infantry private was 1/- per day. In the cavalry it was one shilling and two pence. An infantry Sgt received 2 shillings and four pence; in the cavalry it was 2 shillings and 8 pence. Hope this helps Terry Reeves
Joe Sweeney Posted 17 May , 2003 Share Posted 17 May , 2003 Terry's rates of pay were in effect until Army Order 1 of 1918 when they were slightly increased. Joe Sweeney
