charlie962 Posted 5 October , 2016 Share Posted 5 October , 2016 (edited) I have a photo which includes this captain, Reginald John Evans. I have presumed he is the officer on the left of the photo because the others seem to be of field rank ?(braiding on cap peaks etc) Can anyone verify my thinking? What are the medal ribbons ? He was mentioned in despatches twice: LG 15/4/16 Nixon's Despatch Operations at Kut el Amara 28.9.15 LG 12 and 19/10/16 Lake's Despatch 19/1/16-30/4/16 Any ideas how I can find out more about what he did? What unit would he have been with? Born 1881 Rotherham Yorks, died 2/7/1949 Reigate Surrey, married 1906 Kensington to Jane Elizabeth Cavill. In WWII he was a major in the Home Guard, 2i/c 8th Surrey Bn. Don't look at the picture too closely or you too may develope a squint I've just looked closer at the man on the right whose cap badge I thought was RAMC but it isn't? What is it? HarryBrook Posted 6 October , 2016 Share Posted 6 October , 2016 The cap badge of the officer on the right may that of the Indian Signal Corps, formed from the Indian Signal Service in 1920. Image from "Military Cap Badges of the British Empire 1914-18" by Reginald H. W. Cox. His medal ribbon looks like the British War Medal.
charlie962 Posted 6 October , 2016 Author Share Posted 6 October , 2016 (edited) Harry, For the badge that looks a good match. For the medal ribbons I would expect Evans to have the 14/15 Star BWM and VM if he was in Mespot Sept 1915. Is the man on the left wearing 2 ribbons or is there a 3rd in the fold of his jacket? Charlie Edit MIC confirms 14/15 Star issued by Govt India, , entry 24/11/14 Mespot. Edited 6 October , 2016 by charlie962
