flintman Posted 22 September , 2016 Share Posted 22 September , 2016 Hello forum members, I am having difficulty locating the Medal Index Card for a family member. I have tried every combination on Ancestry but cannot find any reference to the initials or number which appear on his British War Medal as below: 892 Gunner E R James Royal Artillery (He survived WW1) I would greatly appreciate any help as at one point I had over 2 million names to search ! I do not expect anyone to trawl through long lists of numbers but I am hoping someone may have a better search technique or alternative research site ? Any search tips appreciated if you do find him. Many thanks for your time. Regards Clive

flintman Posted 26 September , 2016 Author Share Posted 26 September , 2016 Hi Ray, Thanks for the medal roll which I had not seen. IPT - I have looked on Ancestry but found nothing - Half of me wants you to say you have found them on Ancestry ??? The other half doesn't as it suggests I may as well cancel my Ancestry subscription as being a waste of time ! I now have my step grandfather's MIC & MEDAL ROLL and thank you all for your time and assistance. I used to go to my Grandma's house with my father at Xmas where i remember Evis James sitting in an arm chair. He was a man of few words and as a lad I did not think to speak to him about his days during WW1 or whether he served. He is currently the only relative I can find who actually served in WW1. Thanks again for your help/ Clive
clk Posted 26 September , 2016 Share Posted 26 September , 2016 Hi Clive, Further to IPTs post #6, his service papers (incorrectly indexed under Evan Roy James) are here on FMP. They should also be on Ancestry, perhaps also incorrectly indexed. Regards Chris
