William Angus VC (again)

Hi,

a William Angus VC topic appeared on this forum in 2006, with the last post written in 2014. Having only just arrived here, I added a 'request for information' post- to it- the other day. However, I note many who posted on that topic have not visited the forum for years, & assume my post will go unnoticed. I have therefore raised another topic on the subject, in the hope I can get a few pointers. I have written to a section of the Celtic club, but their reply was half-hearted, while I received no reply from the Scottish FA.

My original post read-

Hi guys,

I have just stumbled across this forum & old thread while researching another VC recipient. I'm in the process of compiling information for a book, & due to a small link between my subject & William Angus, I'm attempting to clarify a particular issue, which with the passage of time, may, or may not be available.

I've read most of what's available online regarding Willie Angus, yet I'm unable to determine if he was playing at Wishaw in the capacity of a professional- or semi-professional, prior to signing up with the Army.

A couple of stories on the BNA (British Newspaper Archive) appear to indicate a degree of semi/professionalism at Wishaw at the time- though I'm looking for evidence. Reference is given to- including three amateurs during one game- leading one to assume the others were professional, while another story relates to players going on strike for more money. Would Willie's military records include details of his profession on signing up?

However, if someone can provide any information with regards to Willie's professional status at Wishaw, or point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks,

Graham;
