moggs Posted 15 September , 2016 Share Posted 15 September , 2016 Hello everybody, In half a hope that we can revive the MGWAT artistic offerings I give you some of my music. Great War Frolic. The name grew out of the GWF, I just changed the last word to suit my temperament at the time. Great War Frolic was originally intended as the background music for a video I wanted to make about my Grandpa's world war one story. One day it will happen. There is no story in the music but there is whimsy and pathos which, to me, are both very real sentiments which collided in those awful days of a hundred years ago. For now, I hope you enjoy this track Jonathan https://jonathanmorrison.bandcamp.com/track/great-war-frolic PS. If you find your way to this site you may have access to all of my music. Please feel free to peruse - there's a lot there!

Dragon Posted 18 September , 2016 Share Posted 18 September , 2016 I felt there was a growing sense of apprehension. What is your method of working when you have both visual imagery and a soundtrack in mind? For example, do you have images first to which you put sounds? What software do you use? moggs Posted 18 September , 2016 Author Share Posted 18 September , 2016 Thanks Gwyn, A growing apprehension is pretty close. Certainly I was wanting to add a menace to the original themes but I also wanted a sense of fatalism, that despite the many intentions the outcome was always going to be tragic - not for individuals as such but for the overall society that created the monster. I have struggled with the visual side being not sure whether to just involve items which directly relate to Ted or include items which work on a more general everyday feel. I started to write a script of sorts but became caught up in the language (the audience is unclear still). I know I need to get overall structure to the document, I can see it in my head but I can't get it out just yet. I hoped the music would jolt me but so far it has added to the mist. One day it will all happen I have no doubt. I might need to stop working at everything else I do and that may take some time. I normally write songs, pieces for orchestra and musicals where the vision is an important aspect of the writing but not critical. I haven't created many video works. As for software, musically I use Cubase which allows me to notate and record with great accuracy - the sounds I used here are from the Garritan Personal Orchestra. I will likely use iMovie for the visual aspects. Jonathan
Medaler Posted 18 September , 2016 Share Posted 18 September , 2016 An interesting approach, and certainly different to the one my granny had. Around the time of the Great War (though possibly just a little afterwards) she was a cinema pianist. For her the pictures always came first! Please post the finished result when you have it. I would love to see it. Warmest regards, Mike
