Phil Evans Posted 8 September , 2016 Share Posted 8 September , 2016 I don't have the DC yet, but assuming that he did die of TB, how does the attached extract stack up? The report of the Medical Board states that his condition was aggravated by ordinary military service, but the section below states that it cannot be considered for pension purposes to have been due to, or aggravated by etc. From the full sheet (cropped to fit here), it appears that he was awarded a £25 gratuity. The man in question is Frederick Harold Mackney, Pte 554928, 16th Bn London Regiment (QWR, from Walworth). He died in November 1917. His SWB card is on Ancestry and he has a surviving record. Your thoughts appreciated. Phil
ss002d6252 Posted 8 September , 2016 Share Posted 8 September , 2016 (edited) I'd suspect that the first part stating the cause was atrributed to service would be the key part (assuming the death cert is OK). Having looked at the main book that was written on War Pensions I can't see anything specific that would explain the difference other than perhaps that the board stated the medical opinion on fitness for military service and the pension was then assesed (and could come up with a different determination under pension rules). Phil Evans Posted 8 September , 2016 Author Share Posted 8 September , 2016 Craig, That was my (wishful) line of thinking, but I don't know the intricacies of pension payments. It 's also been about five years since I last put a case forward, back in the days of the MoD adjudications. This one only cropped up today, when I was rooting around in Nunhead Cemetery and rediscovered a scattered heap of old grave markers. Phil
ss002d6252 Posted 8 September , 2016 Share Posted 8 September , 2016 I have bits and pieces on pensions I gathered whilst doing the work on war gratuities so I'll take a look through it when I get a chance and see if I can tie it down.
