alantaylor2004@hotmail.com Posted 6 September , 2016 Share Posted 6 September , 2016 Hi there, George Taylor, L/46917, RA I have a relation who lived at 60, High St Poplar and I have found his pension record on Ancestry. Therefore there should be a MIC and a Medal Roll or 2 also. The problem is I am unable to find it. I have been looking for ages and although have put in all the usual variants can't find them. Perhaps I'm missing something, then I thought the chaps on the War Forum have never let me down in the past. I thank you all in advance for your help, this is a great site and I have always found the members very helpful. Once again thanks in advance. I would love to know what I'm doing wrong. Cheers, Alan
IPT Posted 6 September , 2016 Share Posted 6 September , 2016 L/46417 in fact. He enlisted 11/10/1915, but was discharged 10/2/1916 having lied about his age (claiming to be 19 when he was 17). He hadn't gone abroad and so had no entitlement to medals. He may well have re-enlisted later.
chaz Posted 8 September , 2016 Share Posted 8 September , 2016 fmp search George Taylor use optional keywords 46417 no prefix. 6 or 7 pages, clearly no medal entitlement and had been absent on a couple of occasions. as IPT said, he may have enlisted later when needed, BUT probably not Army as record was on file OR maybe gave a false name. also , as he went missing a few times I doubt he would have re signed on again.... chaz Posted 8 September , 2016 Share Posted 8 September , 2016 interestingly, they also have another George (Henry) also born 1896 showing as being from Poplar as well, joined in Feb 1917 discharged due to appendicitis march 1918. would probably be a common name but from same area of London, who knows
