GraemeClarke Posted 4 September , 2016 Share Posted 4 September , 2016 Hi 13 feb 1917 In the field. Our artillery bombarded enemy position effectively, and enemy retaliated strongly. New front line heavily bombarded by both artilleries. Battalion relieved by 7th Battalion Yorks Regiment. Relief complete 12 midnight. Battalion withdrew to brigade reserve in Combles. Casualties 2nd Lt. R. Jarrers, 17 other ranks. (Not sure of officers name) Regards, Graeme

John_Hartley Posted 4 September , 2016 Share Posted 4 September , 2016 FWIW, the battalion history has nothing to add, noting only the "furious bombardment" on both sides.

Loader Posted 4 September , 2016 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2016 Many many thanks to all of you who responded! Graeme that was exactly what I needed. John thanks for the look at the Bn history, they sure gave it short shrift didn't they? An officer & 17 ORs casualties seems a bit more than normal "wastage" I think they called it. Sounds like one terrible barrage indeed. The kindness & willingness of the Forum members to help is so remarkable & much appreciated.
