midshipmanrayley Posted 20 August , 2016 Share Posted 20 August , 2016 Thomas Henry Fagence 1875-1918 served as Chief Petty Officer 156206 in the Royal Navy. Awarded M.I. D. and Gazetted 15th March 1918. Whilst serving at H.M.S. "Vernon" the torpedo school at Portsmouth died 28th May 1918. Whilst experimenting with explosives was killed by accidental explosion. Can any member please help supply more details regarding this unfortunate accident.
sotonmate Posted 21 August , 2016 Share Posted 21 August , 2016 Just a comment that it may not just have been about a torpedo as VERNON was also doing experimental work on mines and depth charges around this period.
seaJane Posted 21 August , 2016 Share Posted 21 August , 2016 Might be worth contacting Portsmouth History Centre to see if they can help? They have access to local papers. https://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/ext/documents-external/lib-localhistoryguide.pdf
