t.ryan Posted 9 August Share Posted 9 August navydoc, Have you been hiding this litter for a rainy day!!!. First, we already have #1658 and #8363. and the one you called # 8360 is I believe, #8363. From what I can see smiling tigers numbered 7434, 2830, 4931, 4021 6310, 4907, 1724, 2456 and 1857 are all new to the list, for a total of 9 new kittens. I am sure JMB will double check us before updating. Ian Skennerton has just recently put up a u-tube video on his up and coming new "Brit. Com. Bay. book 2025" if anyone's interested in having a look. Cheers, TR
navydoc16 Posted 9 August Share Posted 9 August (edited) @t.ryan Keep them stashed for a bulk post! Just kidding glad to know at least some of them were good. I vetted them first to make sure they were new. would be nice if they always came in big batches I have a couple bayonets in that new book haha, has been a fun project kind regards g Edited 9 August by navydoc16
JMB1943 Posted 9 August Author Share Posted 9 August @navydoc16, Many thanks for searching all of those world auction sites----very profitable!! @t.ryan, Many thanks, likewise, for checking the numbers---helps me a lot!! N.B. Not 4021 but 5021. Updated Table is posted below, and the possible confusion of 3 with 7 (5323/5327) raises some issues, and frankly is making me more than a little nervous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Total = 355, have I missed some??? Could you post some photos of serials that clearly differentiate 3 from 7: Here are those serials that show a 3 & a 7 in the same number, e.g., 732; 3057; 3070; 3078; 3372; 3673; 3734; 3797; 3997; 4537; 4937; 6137; 6732; 6737; 7143; 7434; 7435; 7538; 7603; 7923; 7973; 8732; 8737; 8783; 9337; 9377; 9737; 9973. Those highlighted should serve, but no need to post three or so that really show good differentiation. Thanks for your help with this (for your sleepless nights...)! t.ryan Posted 9 August Share Posted 9 August (edited) JMB, #5021 for sure, just a slip of the finger. I will check the list out when I am updating my photo list of the recent smiling cat findings. Some photo's with #s 3, 7 as requested. # 732, 3673, 3734, 4378, 6732, & 7973. As you can see, the tail of the 3 should end lower than the turn back of the tail of the 7 and is very clearly shown on #3673. navydoc16 Posted 10 August Share Posted 10 August (edited) @JMB1943 no worries at all, actually that batch was 20mins work. I found a forum on FB again that I had not mined. Kind regards, g Edited 12 August by navydoc16
JMB1943 Posted 10 August Author Share Posted 10 August Mr TR, A nice selection of 3/7’s in those photos, many thanks for taking the time to sort them out! Regards, JMB
t.ryan Posted 12 August Share Posted 12 August JMB, New list looks good as far as all the new numbers go except for the dreaded, is it a 3 or is it a 7 number; 5327 which has not been entered yet. I think this close up photo of # 5327 should help you decide that the last # is clearly a 7. Cheers, TR
JMB1943 Posted 12 August Author Share Posted 12 August TR, Yes, that close-up certainly helps, and I would agree with #5327. Regards, JMB

navydoc16 Posted 31 August Share Posted 31 August @JMB1943 just a note, that of the last 20 odd I have found, all are from Down Under, meaning we definitely seem to have the majority of these pieces kind regards g
JMB1943 Posted 1 September Author Share Posted 1 September Yes, I remember the earlier discussions about the destination(s) of these bayonets when they left Thailand. Wasn’t it in two batches—-one to AUS and the other to US? So no surprise that so many are found by you down under. Thanks again for all the efforts put in by yourself, Mr TR and Phil B. t.ryan Posted 4 September Share Posted 4 September (edited) JMB, Phil, nayydoc, On walkabout at the moment, but can see a few smiling tigers are starting to come out of winter hibernation. Not sure if I can upload it at the moment but I think I may have another one, #4474, which does not appear to be listed yet, will confirm in a couple of days. Only using iPad and bad wi-fi, but looks like it has upload. Did not realise at the time but this one also has an original leather smiling tiger numbered scabbard, non matching but a nice pair. # 4738. JMB, this one from your side of the pond. Cheers, TR Edited 5 September by t.ryan Add extra info.
mcb9022 Posted 8 September Share Posted 8 September Hi everyone I can't see this one as having being registered before, 7529 but may have interpreted the numbers incorrectly. Can someone check? Cheers Mark
t.ryan Posted 8 September Share Posted 8 September mcb9022, Smiling tiger #7529 is correct and it would appear to be another new number for the list, thanks for adding. Cheers, TR
