Alisonmallen62 Posted 24 September , 2016 Share Posted 24 September , 2016 I am looking for recorded info on 121966 Sapper Thomas Lloyd RE wounded poss 1917 perhaps these lists will eventually show him?
brianmorris547 Posted 24 September , 2016 Author Share Posted 24 September , 2016 Alison He is not named on any of the lists I've posted so far. I will try a FMP search on his number on Tuesday when next in the library. Even if it comes back with no result do not give up. I am finding lists that are hardly readable and the names do not show up on a FMP search. Brian

This shows that he was attached to 90 Infantry Brigade of 30 Div. EDIT: Dates to June 1917. 47320 Spr Bennett is named on list HA 10824 June 1917 in Casualty Lists p 30. charlie962 Posted 6 October , 2016 Share Posted 6 October , 2016 (edited) Post 23 probably early Oct 1917. Service record for Hancock RGA has this: and Heath RGA died of wounds Oct 1917. Does this sort of info help you? although 1917 not 1916! Charlie962 Edited 6 October , 2016 by charlie962
charlie962 Posted 6 October , 2016 Share Posted 6 October , 2016 (edited) Post 30 Lavell RE service record has this: and there is another version of the sheet with just enough on the rh side which must mean it is HA 11044/79823 of 22.6.17 Edited 6 October , 2016 by charlie962
brianmorris547 Posted 7 October , 2016 Author Share Posted 7 October , 2016 (edited) Charlie Thanks for these. My aim is to try and find my RE grandfather 83123 who was wounded in Sep 1916. These casualty lists are my last hope. I am going through the Times OCL and noting the names of the RE wounded. (My gf is named on 11/10/1916). I have done the Oct Dec quarter 1916 and am just starting on the Jul - Sep quarter. I check the details on Ancestry to make sure I have the correct number and then search FMP using the correct number and Royal Engineers in the Optional Keywords box. There is no return for 83123 but I am finding others, particularly on faint lists and where the numbers are obscured, who also do not show up on a check. I am not really trying to date them other than to see if some on the list have the 1914-15 star or not. Eastindia Posted 7 October , 2016 Share Posted 7 October , 2016 What a magnificent and time consuming project. Something for which we should always be grateful. Is there a glossary of abbreviations anywhere? GSW is obviously gun shot wound and P. U. O is pyrexia or fever of unknown origin but what is s.b.w. ? In the example I had small bowel wound was inappropriate.
charlie962 Posted 7 October , 2016 Share Posted 7 October , 2016 (edited) East India -looking at his (Hancock, RGA, post 23) injuries I'd say sbw is severe burn wounds. Brian- I know you have a particular search project and this is the spin-off. Very well done. Being able to date the sheet is very useful additional info but i wasn't sure where/how to note it. brianmorris547 Posted 14 October , 2016 Author Share Posted 14 October , 2016 (edited) Seven of the Sappers on this list do not have the 1914-15 Star and one of them, 155293 Arthur Young, was discharged under Para 392 on 29/01/1918. The service record of 59831 Thomas Bulman shows that he was admitted into 10 CCS with wounds on 12/11/1917. EDIT: Other records i.e. Sprs Young and Marshall confirm November 1917. Pat Atkins Posted 19 October , 2016 Share Posted 19 October , 2016 Thank you for this laudable and impressive undertaking, what a great resource. I'm using it to see if there's ever a mention of my great-uncle, 30445 Spr. Percy T. C. Atkins*. Not in any real hope, given the scope of the task, but the recording of unit here means if he did turn up it could be crucial. So thanks very much indeed, it must be a mammoth undertaking and I thought you'd like to know it's appreciated. Cheers, Pat *who perhaps served with 72365 Sgt J. A. Pinder MM in a Cable Section; I posted a thread on this a while back which elicited some helpful input from Pals: it appears to be LU, NU, or even LW or NW Cable Section - I have found no record of any of them so far, alas. brianmorris547 Posted 19 October , 2016 Author Share Posted 19 October , 2016 This one is easy to date. 99809 Spr Frank Howe is one of my County Palatine RE men. He enlisted in Manchester on 19/07/1915 and joined 200 FC in Morecambe as a skilled carpenter. 30 Div RE moved to Boultham Park, Lincoln on 29/07/1915 but Frank was transferred to The Depot Co at Newark and from there to 225 FC (39 Div) on 22/02/1916. 225 FC disembarked at Havre on 04/03/1916. The WD for 225 FC for 11/07/1916 names Sapper Howe wounded. His pension record shows that he was admitted to No 13 GH with GSW on 12/07/1916. He was evacuated to England two days later and discharged under Para 392 on 15/11/1916.
brianmorris547 Posted 20 October , 2016 Author Share Posted 20 October , 2016 (edited) The Sappers on this list all appear to be from 13 Div (apart from 29776 L/Cpl Crawford of 31 Div Sigs Co). Only three others have the 1914-15 Star and four have service records. Dvr Hurt, Spr Dwyer and Dvr Fawcett are all shown as embarking for the Mesopotamia Ex Force on 12/05/1916. Spr Dwyer was in hospital with heat stroke and malaria from 11/10/1916 to 08/12/1916. In 1917 he was treated for malaria at the Northern General Hospital in Lincoln and in 1918 was sent to the Malaria Concentration Centre at Kinmell Park, North Wales. 99833 Spr Edward Furness is an original County Palatine RE man with no 1914-15 Star so I can add these details against his name. I thought that L/Cpl Crawford's Unit must be 13 Div Sigs but he has a 1914-15 Star France 20/07/1915. EDIT: Dates to July 1916. A number of Sappers on this list went out to Basra in May 1916, were admitted to hospital in late July 1916 and were evacuated to India on HS Assaye to India in August 1916. brianmorris547 Posted 2 December , 2016 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2016 (edited) Post 44 is part of a list no C/899 (sheet 5), I also have sheet 7 of the same list which is faint but I am transcribing it and will post details asap.
