Guest janetchopkins Posted 7 August , 2016 Share Posted 7 August , 2016 Hello everyone, Lt. Henry Bowyer Walton was born on November 29th, 1893 in the london UK area, and he served in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He was in Gibraltar, and served carrying despatches. What I would like to find out is when he enlisted, and if it is possible anyone would have a photograph. Henry became a barrister after the war, and he later married Linda Ellen Amalia Sylvin. Any children unknown. Henry Bowyer Walton had a brother named John Rigby Walton, born 1897 who was a Major in the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was Military Commander in Rangoon, Burma in 1942 I would also like to have a photograph of him if that is at all possible. I have tried Ancestry trees for both of the above men for a photo, but cannot locate. Any advice or help deeply appreciated,
RaySearching Posted 7 August , 2016 Share Posted 7 August , 2016 Cannot help with a photo of Lt H B Walton but the family can be found on the 1901 census miss transcribed by Ancestry as Wallon HERE His service records can be found at the National Archives HERE unfortunately presently not available for download but can be viewed at Kew You can request a quotation for a copy to be digitised or printed and sent to you. but depending on how many pages there are they may turn out to be quite expensive Regards Ray

Promenade Posted 7 August , 2016 Share Posted 7 August , 2016 Janet, If you write to the Glos Regt Museum they will be able to get you a photo of JR Walton - tell them it is in the Back Badge of 1932. Promenade

sotonmate Posted 7 August , 2016 Share Posted 7 August , 2016 Lt. H B Walton RGA has a service file at Kew but not digital, so needs to be read there: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1112522 It is also likely that he was number 141810 soldier HB Walton who became a commissioned officer in the RGA on 9 Aug 1916. If so these papers should be in the officer's file too.
clk Posted 7 August , 2016 Share Posted 7 August , 2016 Hi Janet, Sorry I can't help with photos either. Re John Rigby Walton, his long service admin number record p4/45 of the free download of WO 338/20/4 shows that his post war admin number was P5083. That number cross references to the service records still held by the MoD. NB - the DoBs are shown in the USA format. If you were to want a copy of his file (or a transcript of it) it would cost £30 - see here for what you would need to do. Contrary to the general advice shown, other forum pals have confirmed that the MoD waive the need for a copy of a death certificate for people who were born before 1900. His long service admin number record indicates that he had service with the 7th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment, and the Gloucestershire Regiment. Interesting though his medal index card only shows service in active theatre with the Dorsetshire Regiment, the Somerset Light Infantry, and lastly with . To be honest I haven't got a clue what that means, maybe something like "Deputy Assistant Provost Marshall Suez Base". Hopefully, if other Pals don't know, his service record would clarify. Promenade Posted 6 September , 2016 Share Posted 6 September , 2016 Always disappointing when we make an effort to answer a query and the poster appears to not be bothered to revisit the site! Promenade
