Guest erdunstan Posted 2 August , 2016 Share Posted 2 August , 2016 My great grandfather Cyril Hart-Collins was a pilot who flew out of Auchel Airfield with No 18 Squadron until he was shot down 16/2/1916. Does anyone have (or know where I could source) any information on this airfield (maps, aerial photos, squadron). Many thanks
The Inspector Posted 2 August , 2016 Share Posted 2 August , 2016 Hi Google "Auchel/Lozinghem" for info. Regards Barry You have posted he was shot down on 16th Feb 1916. Reports I have read state it was on the 19th when he was flying 5621 Vickers FB5,.....interested! I presume you have seen his Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificate records. Guest erdunstan Posted 3 August , 2016 Share Posted 3 August , 2016 Thanks both, quite correct he arrived 16/2/16 shot down 19/2/16, war over. A very short aviation career.i attach his photo. I will chase up both leads. Passed through Auchel today on the way back from the Somme, very flat perfect for airfield. Will return when more research undertaken
