Gareth Davies Posted 1 August , 2016 Share Posted 1 August , 2016 Where in Wailly was the Tank Driving School? And is there anything visible left on the ground?
IPT Posted 1 August , 2016 Share Posted 1 August , 2016 According to a number of contemporary books, the tanks seem to have mainly used the old German front line and trench network to practice . Looking at a 1916 trench map, this appears to have run South of the village, towards Ficheux. If so, there's not much to see on a modern aerial map. peterjohndye Posted 18 June , 2021 Share Posted 18 June , 2021 A rather belated response, but the the Tank Driving School was at Sheet 51C.R.22.d/23.c. The attached map and German aerial photo show the main site, with the 'driving' area to the south-west (towards Ficheux - as previously suggested)
battle of loos Posted 18 June , 2021 Share Posted 18 June , 2021 good morning, to date, the area is partly built by houses since the 90s - 2000s. the rest should be beaten. I will take pictures tomorrow. I will not be far away because the Commonwealth War Grave Commission (Beaurain) is doing an open door operation of its premises. regards michel
