daggers Posted 1 August , 2016 Share Posted 1 August , 2016 (edited) I would be glad of any detail of this Territorial officer who was listed as a member of 14th Lancashire Battery, based in Garston, Liverpool in a directory dated 1912. His MIC shows he entered France on 9 Feb 1917 which is many months after that unit crossed, and shows he earned the BWM and Victory Medal, as well as an SWB in 1918. I have not found his SWB in Ancestry, nor can I find his first names. The postwar address on the MIC is in Northwood Middlesex, so he may not have been a long-term local resident when he joined the TF. All clues welcome. EDIT to add I found a Gazette entry for 1912 to the effect that this officer had resigned his commission, and so his war service is likely to have been with another unit. This removes the need for my original post. Daggers Edited 1 August , 2016 by daggers later information.
David Porter Posted 1 August , 2016 Share Posted 1 August , 2016 Possibly Frederick Steele Pilcher - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C724284 He was probably with 2/14th Lancashire Battery (C/287), which by the time they went overseas on February 9, 1917 had been broken up to A/287 and B/287. These became C/175 Army Brigade or C/293 Army Brigade depending on which battery he was allocated. Or he may have become surplus.
daggers Posted 1 August , 2016 Author Share Posted 1 August , 2016 Thank you David. You have probably not seen my editing which might have been better as a deletion, if I knew how to do that! D
David Porter Posted 2 August , 2016 Share Posted 2 August , 2016 He may have resigned his commission in 1912 but was quite clearly back with the West Lancs. Brigade in 1916. This from the Supplement to the London Gazette, June 22, 1916.
