2nd Division / 18th Division July 1916

Hi,  I am wondering if anyone can help.  I am trying to trace my Grandfathers footsteps through the Somme and have hit a brick wall!  He was with E Special Company RE.  Using the HQ diary  I can place E company right up to 8.7.16 when they were told to report to the 2nd Division who I believe came down to the Somme from Vimy and were involved in  Delville Wood as part of the 18th Division, which E company was attached to prior to this. Do you think I would be correct continuing to follow the 18th Division as no mention is made regarding E company in the HQ diaries until they have their own company diaries after the re-structure in 1917.
