Onthelookout Posted 26 July , 2016 Share Posted 26 July , 2016 Hi All, I am looking for some help regarding my great great grandfathers military records. Sorry I am a novice but have recently found his records but I am confused with some of the details within it. It states he served in the Army Service Corps under 494 M.T. Coy A.S.C but when trying to find information on the 494 M.T corps nothing seems to come up, although I am only searching on Google at present. Similarly I also have the same problem when searching for 683 Coy which is also on his records. The records states he embarked at Southampton on the 18th June 1916 for Rouen in France. He then spent 6 months in France before Embarking on the H.T. Megantic at Marseilles on 15th December 1916 disembarking in Salonika on the 21st December 1916. Any ideas would he would likely have been doing for those 6 months in France before heading to Marseilles? His record also states he transferred from the 683 Coy to the 48 Gun H (I assume this is Gun and is a Division) any ideas if 48 Gun H was in Salonika and what action they fought in? He then transferred back to 683 Coy and then transferred to the 781 Coy of which I can find no record of a 781 Coy. Later on in his records his Regiment and Unit again changed to the R.A.S.C 767 MT Coy, again I can't find a 767 MT Coy. Sorry it's a lot to request but hoping some of you can provide me with guidance of where to look or provide information on these Units/Companies he served for. I want to find out exactly where my great great grandfather fought in WW1. Thanks in advance for all your help. michaeldr Posted 29 July , 2016 Share Posted 29 July , 2016 That could well be the case Ron There is mention of the 48th General Hospital at Salonika on page 8 here https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/idoc.ashx?docid=3a968336-79f0-45f6-b59a-4034c5b4d9e9&version=-
