MaxD Posted 22 July , 2016 Share Posted 22 July , 2016 I am clear that a number I am looking at was in the batch allocated to the East Yorks. Question is - can I, without the man's service record, find the East Yorks number he had before renumbering?;
tullybrone Posted 22 July , 2016 Share Posted 22 July , 2016 Hi, My limited understanding is based on reading of a few Guards service files - so it may not relate to infantry of the line or other formations. On the changeover date the new army service numbers were issued in ascending numerical order based on the soldiers length of service. IMHO the answer to your query is no. Good Luck Steve Y
MaxD Posted 22 July , 2016 Author Share Posted 22 July , 2016 Thanks Steve Y. There was also the possibility that he re-enlisted in the new number era! Thanks anyway, it really was the longest of shots!
