Guest Paul Jones Posted 3 December , 2004 Share Posted 3 December , 2004 Hello again, This forum has been very helpful to me thanks. Now I'm coming back with yet another call for help. Can anyone identify the rank and regiment of this man (taken in June 1917): http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~l...i/percybird.jpg Here are close-ups of his cap & lapel badges but they're rather blurry: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~l...lapelbadges.jpg Thanks in advance, Take care, Paul
CROONAERT Posted 3 December , 2004 Share Posted 3 December , 2004 Tough to state his rank as you can't really see his epaulettes but it looks like there's only one item ("pip" or crown) making him either a 2/Lt. or a Major. He's badged up to a Gloucestershire Regiment territorial battalion. Dave.
DrB Posted 4 December , 2004 Share Posted 4 December , 2004 His apparent age screams Lieutenant, but his pip looks very flat for a lieutenant's star. Could very well be a crown signifying a major. More confusion and no answer.................(But, see above anyway for the regimental ID) DrB
Guest Posted 4 December , 2004 Share Posted 4 December , 2004 By 1917 there were some exceedingly young majors. Plenty in their 20s it is said. Doesn't look like a single star to me. johngu
eviltaxman Posted 4 December , 2004 Share Posted 4 December , 2004 Going by the URL and a quick check on the MICs, tis is 2/Lt Percy Bird - Gloucestershire Reg. He's also the only Percy Bird of the Glosters to come up. Percy Bird - MIC entry Les
