Guest LKG Posted 19 July , 2016 Share Posted 19 July , 2016 I am researching the history of Leonard Ralph Gleed (born 1891, London). I have been unable to find any military records for him. Family members believed that he had no part in the war and that he remained a school master throughout. He never spoke about the war. I have found on his marriage certificate that he was living at Marine Gardens, Portobello, Edinburgh in 1917 and gave his occupation as school master/ 31st battalion Royal fusiliers. I understand that this was a reserve or training battalion. On his retirement, an article listed his time 1915-1918 as military service. It also mentioned he attended University of Grenoble ( France ) 1914. I have wondered if he possibly had a role involving translating or interpreting documents, since he was 23 years old with a university degree (University of Southampton) and spoke French and German. After the war he published text books in both languages. How can I find out whether he was involved in an administrative role such as translator?
