William Henry Hewitt 46858

Hello, I would like some help if at all possible.

I am trying to search for an enlistment date for my great-uncle William Henry Hewitt. It appears that he first joined the South Staffordshire Regiment and his number was 46858. He then went into the Machine Gun Corp, under the number 137562. I have found everything else about him, as well as visiting his grave in Belgium, but this piece of the jigsaw is proving very difficult. Could anyone please help.
