tootrock Posted 14 July , 2016 Share Posted 14 July , 2016 In several War Diaries it states that troops bivouacked both before and after July 1st at a location called Long Valley. I believe it is somewhere between Millencourt and Albert. Does anyone have a precise location for this area, and is it shown on any maps? Thanks in anticipation, Martin
depaor01 Posted 14 July , 2016 Share Posted 14 July , 2016 Nearest I can find is this - Northeast of Ruyaulcourt? From Bertincourt map, corrected to 12/2/17. Hope it's OK to post the image.
tootrock Posted 14 July , 2016 Author Share Posted 14 July , 2016 Thanks for that but I am afraid that Ruyaulcourt was way behind the German lines on July 1. The one I am looking for was somewhere near Albert. Martin
Chris_Baker Posted 14 July , 2016 Share Posted 14 July , 2016 Martin, I can't find it named on any map I have but there is only one geographic feature that would fit the bill. It is the west-east depression below the 70m contours on this clipping (I've picked it out with the flag):
