William Paton Gillespie - Heiton Memorial Medal for marksmanship 1912

Hi,

I've been told that my grandfather William Paton Gillespie, who was in the 6th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders was the recipient of a marksmanship medal in 1912.

I think it was called the Heiton Memorial medal. Apparently he was a sniper in the Somme, according to my cousin.

Has anyone heard of this medal ? I'd like to find out more about it, as I never got to meet my grandfather as he died just after I was born.

Thanks,

Daryl
