Major Alfred Dennis

We would like to know more if possible about the War Service of my husband's grandfather Alfred Dennis (born 18th Feb 1859) who originally joined the Army at Chatham in 1877 under the name of George Dennis.  He seemed to have spent WW1 on the Isle of Wight.  In 1915 he was promoted to Major.  His Regimental Number was R.E.14476.   J.P.L.

Alfred Dennis was my Great Grandfather and while still George Dennis served in the Zulu War and the Chinese Boxer Rising amongst others.

His obit in a local paper - click for FmP excerpt.

He gives the reporter a lot about the Zulu Wars, but there is nothing about his Army life after  being posted to Isle of Wight in 1900.

After promotion to Lieutenant he reverted to his birth name of Alfred Dennis. He retired from the army then rejoined at the start of WW1. It was then he went Captain and finally Major
