owen4256 Posted 9 July , 2016 Share Posted 9 July , 2016 Rather a long shot but if any pals are in the vicinity of Vlamertinghe military cemetery and armed with a camera, I would very much appreciate a picture showing both of these two headstones together :Myers in plot VII. E. 2. and Mitchell in plot VII. E. 1. These are two cyclists from the VIII Corps Battalion who were killed during the shelling on June 3rd 1917 whilst attached to the Corps Heavy Artillery Group. 13624 Private William John Mitchell from Braintree, Essex and 13625 Private Albert Myers, of Bow, London had both originally joined the 60th Divisional Cyclist Company on the same day in 1915 and been given consecutive numbers. They were again given consecutive numbers when the territorial cyclists transferred to regular army terms and condition in November 1916. They had transferred together to VIII Corps Cyclist Battalion on the same day in 1917 . They were killed in the same bombardment, on the same day and they are buried in adjacent plots in Vlamertinghe cemetery. Regards Clive

owen4256 Posted 10 July , 2016 Author Share Posted 10 July , 2016 Graeme Excellent quality. Many thanks for the links. A bit of judicious cropping will give me what I'm after. I know the parallel service and deaths are not unique but the story of these two struck a chord for me. Best regards Clive
