ChasMalmesbury Posted 8 July , 2016 Share Posted 8 July , 2016 Being an ex TA Fusilier I was gratified to see the Medal Rolls for these Battalions give information not normally entered like date of entry & exit to theatre of war but then realised it does not specify 1/1st, 2/1st etc. So the record for Richard Tilney 204472 - his service number and Silver War badge roll shows he started and finished with 1st - presumably 3/1st as this was home service but the Victory & British War roll shows just 2nd Lond R - how can I find out if it was 1/2nd or 2/2nd? Help please. Charles
clk Posted 8 July , 2016 Share Posted 8 July , 2016 Hi Charles, He appears to have two ICRC index cards* (from which you can link to the registers using the PA numbers shown). They show that he was taken (unwounded) as a PoW on the 21st March 1918, and give him as 'A' Company, 2/2nd. Regards Chris *EDIT: one appears to be under a pre Spring 1917 number, and the other under his TF re-number number.
ChasMalmesbury Posted 9 July , 2016 Author Share Posted 9 July , 2016 Thanks so much Chris. I wonder why it was considered he was no longer in the theatre of war a day before he was captured! Charles
clk Posted 9 July , 2016 Share Posted 9 July , 2016 Hi Charles, I don't think that it's anything personal to him. I guess it's just how they (someone) decided to record the dates on the medal roll. I've come across the exact same thing in the past which is what prompted me to have a look at the ICRC records for your man. Regards Chris
