alan figg Posted 5 July , 2016 Share Posted 5 July , 2016 Hi all, Has anybody got or seen images of the two Memorial Plaque designs that came runners-up in the competition that Edward Carter Preston won with his winning design "PYRAMUS". They were in 2nd place "MOOLIE" and in 3rd place "SCULPENGRO"

Geertsen Posted 14 July , 2016 Share Posted 14 July , 2016 This is so interesting! It's no surprise Edward Carter Preston won the competition though as they all seem very somber and pain stricken. I definitely think the one we have is the best as it seems to honour the bravery of the fallen by being more 'victorious', for want of a better expression. 303man Posted 15 July , 2016 Share Posted 15 July , 2016 Prestons design was not that innovative, just look at these 2 medals both Britannia and a lion. He has basically put the lion from the Africa GSM in front, added the eagle being slayed where it says AFRICA and used the wreath in Britannia's hand of the Queens South Africa Medal. Where the ghost date is on the QSA added the name tablet.
303man Posted 15 July , 2016 Share Posted 15 July , 2016 The new General Service Medal 2008 also has Britannia and a lion on it, incidentally Carter Preston also designed the General Service Medal 1918 - 1962 as well as the Police Long Service Medal, Air Force Cross, Distinguished Flying Medal, Queens Korea Medal & British War Medal he was quite prolific.
