Unknown Uniform

Hi ,

 

This picture has turned up in our family archive.

Unfortunately we have no idea who he is. I was wondering if anyone can identify the uniform.

I think that he could possibly be a Territorial Bn of the Border Regiment ie 4th or 5th Battalion--but not certain.

Many thanks Old Owl. A Borders regiment would fit the area that the photos were found in.

 

2 more pics have turned up that we think are the same man. Wonder if it helps?

They could be the same man but it is very difficult to say.  These photos are probably taken in India looking at the shorts being worn and the man in the second photo, bottom left, appears to be wearing a Territorial shoulder title--which would fit. Unfortunately there is no other regimental insignia on show.

 

I believe that 1/4th and 2/4th Bns of the Border Regt served in Burma and India throughout the Great War.  From Locations of British Units 1914-24, as below:

 

1/4th Bn, Burma 5 Dec 14, India 1915 and throughout the war.

2/4th Bn, India 31 Mar 15 and throughout the war.  N.W.Frontier 1916-17 (Afghanistan 1919)

 

Makes perfect sense I think?

Thanks again Old Owl. With your original information that you gave me , I used Ancestry and it is now starting to point to a relative William Percy Noble 200117. Too early to say yet but has given me a massive start.
