Guest Posted 2 July , 2016 Share Posted 2 July , 2016 I have a Medal Card for a Thomas Henry Mawby where the first entry under Corps is "North'n N.L.C." with the rank of Spr. Regimental Number 250. On the DVD-ROM The First World War Campaign Medals the entry reads Previous Units "1st. North'n. N.C.C. 250 Pte". He went on to serve in the Royal Engineers and the 1/4th London Regt. Could someone tell me who the Northern NCC or NLC is as the usual methods have not helped. My thanks in anticipation, Regards..............Allen
Ron Clifton Posted 2 July , 2016 Share Posted 2 July , 2016 NCC is usually Non-Combatant Corps, composed mainly of conscientious objectors who were nevertheless prepared to serve in the Army in non-combat roles. There were about eight of these companies in France, the "Northern" in this case indicating that the men came from Northern Command in the UK. LC as in NLC might refer to the Labour Corps, indicating soldiers not fully fit for front-line service (often on account of age). Ron
