Mangoman Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 On my village war meorial E. Eckett is commemorated as having been killed during WW1. I have researched all the men from my village of Mangotsfield, near Bristol and outlying districts who fell during the conflict but have been unable to find any information on this man. He is not recorded on the CWGC site and there is no corresponding MIC for him either so am stuck as to where to turn to next for help. Is there an RFC/RAF site that I can contact that anyone knows of?
IPT Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 I think it may be Edwin Nichols Eckett (c1899-1919), buried Mangotsfield, St James 16/2/1919, aged 19. Death registered in Keynsham, Somerset, 1st Qtr 1919. Appears to have been born in Kensington, but is living in Mangotsfield on the 1911 census, stepson of Albert Bullock, Mother Jane. There's E.N. Eckett, 2 A.M. on an RAF muster roll,

I cannot find an MIC for him so it begs the question aswhether or not he was awarded the Victory and War Medals?
IPT Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 Using Nieuport's information, (someone had amended his name to "Eckitt" on the front page) I can see a few sparse papers. He enlisted 28/12/1918. His number was 116196. It appears he was in Beaufort War Hospital when discharged 25/5/1918. Received a silver war badge.

hmsk212 Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 Hi, You will not find his swb on Ancestry as they only have Naval and Army and do not have RAF swbs listed. His swb was RAF9915 Steve
IPT Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 It has been gently pointed out to me that I have mis-typed his enlistment date. It should have been 28/12/1917.
