Paul Ormerod Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 (edited) Remembering today Lance Corporal 15388 William Arthur Ormerod - 11th Bn, East Lancashire Regiment - one of the many who fell, one hundred years ago today, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. William was the son of William Henry and Eunice Ormerod, of 85 High St, Rishton, Blackburn, and a member of B (Accrington & District) Company, 11th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. He died at some time between 1 July 1916 and 2 July 1916, and is buried in Railway Hollow Cemetery, Hébuterne, France (Grave Ref. A. 29). He was aged 24 at the time of his death. William is on the list of original members of the Accrington Pals that was published in the Accrington Observer & Times on 23 February 1915, when they left Accrington for active service.
