Paul Ormerod Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 (edited) Remembering, along with all those who fell on this day one hundred years ago, Corporal 15173 Richard Ormerod - 11th Bn, East Lancashire Regiment. Richard was the son of Richard and Eliza Ormerod, of Ramsgreave, Blackburn, and a member of D (Burnley) Company, 11th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. He was one of the many who were killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and he died at some time between 1 July 1916 and 2 July 1916. William is buried in Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, France (Grave Ref. I. A. 24). He was aged 23 at the time of his death. Richard is on the list of original members of the Accrington Pals that was published in the Accrington Observer & Times on 23 February 1915, when they left Accrington for active service. He is remembered in the Greater Accrington Roll of Honour and on St Gabriel's and St Chad's War Memorial in St Gabriel's Church, Brownhill Drive, Blackburn. Retlaw Posted 30 July , 2016 Share Posted 30 July , 2016 If you look in the two editions of the Chorley Pals. the clowns have put Richards picture as Woods. I have been in touch with Richards surviving relatives, and informed them of those errors, Richard kept a diary of his life in the Pals, which ceased a couple of days before July 1st, as it was stowed with his possessions. it is now in Fulwood Museum, Richard listed the names of his machine gun crews on the last page

John was given the photo in question by the Woods family, and was given to understand that it was of their relative. In fact, the two men were best friends in the battalion. Retlaw Posted 31 July , 2016 Share Posted 31 July , 2016 You still haven't come clean about where you got all The Pals numbers from, there were only two sources back then, Fergus Reads Notes & Bill Turners Book, as for Fergus's notes he gave them to me, The original source didn't become available until after Bills book was published, and when I checked it I found discrepancies, so Bill & I checked with Fulwood, they now had them on film. and after a lot of faffing about we got the viewer working, and we rechecked the lot, 41 of those in the lists never served in the 11th, we also found over 60 odd that had been missed, and several named twice thro renumbering, A lot of those clangers are still on your so called web site. By the way Bill & I found more men who had 11th East Lancs stamped in their small book, since Bill died I've taken the number up to 675, 11th East Lancs you know nowt about. As for your two mates in Chorley, no 150, he's fed you some real corkers.
