CWGC added the following casualty to the WW1 War Dead Roll today.

 

 

GRAY, Samuel

Chief Mate

Mercantile Marine, S.S. Charing Cross

Died 19.07.18  Age 62

Commemorated: United Kingdom Book of Remembrance

 

 

NOT FORGOTTEN

Recent research has shown that Chief Mate Gray is buried here. The Commission is in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.

Am trying to find if my great great uncle s son could be commerated, 

arthur magenis  mercantile marine, drowned at sea 19  june 1918 age 16 serving on ss heronspool 

would be interested to hear what others think, the information is gia a newspaper report

Just found this in the BT334 series ( will try to improve the quality). Seems the Heronspool survived - and she is not listed on uboat.net.

we checked this one out. There was no attack on the ship & this appears to be a non combat incident.

Headstone finally erected today. Congrats to all involved. Just a pity the CWGC or Council havent seen fit to have a dedication service for him after all this time.
