m0rris Posted 1 July , 2016 Share Posted 1 July , 2016 Remembering Lt Colonel George Sutherland Guyon killed in action 1st July 1916 leading the 16th West Yorkshire Battalion at Serre. His family are commemorating him today, close to the spot where he died. EastSurrey Posted 2 July , 2016 Share Posted 2 July , 2016 George Guyon had previously, as a Major, commanded 2nd Royal Fusiliers at Gallipoli. Captain George Pirie, M.O. with 2/R.F. there frequently mentions him in his diary. When he heard of Guyon's death, he summed him up 'a nicer man never lived' ('Frontline Medic' p.123.)
