starspeakman Posted 30 June , 2016 Share Posted 30 June , 2016 Are you sure it was the DLI and not the Dorset regiment - that's the only place I can see D Blanchard Lieutenant with my limited access to : https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/namesearch/? clk Posted 30 June , 2016 Share Posted 30 June , 2016 Hi David, Presuming that men of different Battalions were issued numbers from the same Regimental sequence (and that sub blocks weren't allocated) it looks like he may have enlisted in early December 1915. There are a couple of near number surviving service records: 32331 Smith (23 DLI) enlisted 10.12.1915 32336 Christon (16 DLI) enlisted 8.12.1915 Regards Chris Edit: His medal roll record shows that he served in active theatre as a 10 DLI man, then 2 DLI, then 10 DLI
Admin kenf48 Posted 30 June , 2016 Admin Share Posted 30 June , 2016 Just to clarify the two men above attested, under the Derby or Group Scheme, in December 1915. They were mobilized and the numbers allocated on the 17 May 1916. Initial training in the 23rd (Reserve) Bn DLI 12 weeks, so you're looking at earliest date to France August 1916, depending on his age.
