Can anyone help me with the abbreviations on this document please. I have no trouble with Reading or Arm Sch Ux, which I have found is Armaments School Uxbridge, but the entries from 18 5 18, I am having difficulty in understanding what they mean. Any help much appreciated, thanks

Art & Inf Co-Op Sch: Artillery & Infantry Co-Operation School,

Air Min (ex BEF): Air Ministry

Marine Observers School, 58th Wing

next one looks to be No.1 (Training) Gp Headquarters.

RAF Stn Eastchurch

then back to 3rd Suffolks

Thank you everyone, much appreciated.

I am right in saying that he has gone overseas for a short while from 7 July -28 Sept 1918? to ? observers/observation, or has he had something to do with the BEF at the Air

Ministry?

His posting on 28 Sep 18 would appear to have been to what was then known as the School for Anit-Submarine Inshore Patrol Observers (formed August 1918 at Aldeburgh) which was then redesignated Marine Observers School in October 1918.

1 Obs Sch = 1 Observers School at Eastchurch which was redesignated 2 Marine Observers School on 1 Jan 1919.

The Marine Observers School, 58th Wing could refer to either the MOS at Leysdown or 1 MOS at Eastchurch, both of which are noted in the November 1918 monthly listing of Units & Stations - such listings are not 100% infallible and I rather suspect that the MOS HQ was at Eastchurch and the flying element (noted as 3 flights) at nearby Eastchurch. 58th Wing controlled units in that neck of the woods and had nothing on the other side of the Thames Estuary. However, the MOS at Eastchurch, Leysdown and Aldeburgh were noted as being under direct SE Area control, without intermediate Group or Wing involvement.
