Remembered Today:

Woolwich Polytechnic Memorial

Came across the Woolwich Polytechnic Memorial whilst looking for something else altogether; it's one of a growing number of war memorials on the net. It is absolutely superb with very detailed information about students and staff lost. Included are their attendance records, scholastic achievements (or lack of them in some cases), personal and family information, extracts from letters, how they met their deaths and places of burial.

Like many of these institutional war memorials on the net it's clearly been a labour of love for whoever did it. For example many of the CWGC cemeteries seem to have been visited personally. Woolwich poly is now part of Greenwich University. You can see the memorial at:

There is a photo of some of the commemorated at:

Peter Doyle who set up the website is the same as Prof. Peter Doyle (geoligist) who appeared on the Gallipoli programme Channel 5 yesterday.

Many thanks for posting the link - I had this ages ago, and it seemed to 'break' and I couldn't find it again.

Much care has gone into it, clearly. And it's 'nearly' local for me, too.

Right, off to drag out the MGC men... :)
