Steven Broomfield Posted 11 June , 2016 Share Posted 11 June , 2016 From O'Moore Creagh and Humphris' book on the DSO (sorry if it needs rotating). According to the history of the SWB, he was killed bringing up the second wave of his battalion (10th SWB) at Mametz Wood. He had recently arrived from commanding the 19th (Pioneer) Bn, Welsh Regiment.

gwentpal Posted 11 June , 2016 Share Posted 11 June , 2016 Temp Lieutenant Colonel of the 10th Battalion South Wales Borderers 1st Gwent; killed in the first attack on Mametz Wood. The Regimental Sergeant Major recorded in his diary "he was buried amongst his boys from Gwent", unfortunately all the graves were lost and Sidney Wilkinson and his men are now remembered on the Thievpal Memorial.
