Just trying to recall which regiments, other than the Ghurkas were out here in the 80s/90s and which had Pipes & Drums, the QOH,  2 SG, and the RHR Black Watch.

Ron, slight correction.

It was 1 SG who were in HK (82-84) and Jimmy Banks was the P/M.

2 SG were in Chelsea (and some other less affluent areas) in 82 and the late Jimmy Riddell was the Pipe Major. He wrote a wee tune about our Battalion's exploits that year on the back of a fag packet.

"Killaloe" is claimed (officially and unofficially) by a number of regiments - this is an extract from Wiki:

"Killaloe is the Regimental Quick March of the British Army regiment, The Royal Irish Regiment (27th (Inniskilling) 83rd and 87th and Ulster Defence Regiment). It has informal, historical associations with other Irish Regiments and Brigades: as an unofficial march by the Connaught Rangers and Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and at brigade level in World War II by the 38th (Irish) Infantry Brigade. It is also the regimental march of the South African Irish Regiment."

The full article is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killaloe_March and contains the words used by a couple of these regiments. Slightly off topic, it was adopted by the Bugles and Drums of the Stedfast Association when we went to Flanders in 2014. We had pipes as well as bugles, and it had been adapted at some time for use by both. Our rendition of the shouts at the correct moments went down well with the locals!

How right you are.  Thanks.  And as for Dixie?  He was on attachment to the AUOTC as RSM.

That's right Ron. After Aberdeen, Dixie went to the Guards Depot Piping School, Pirbright (also known as the Gracenote Factory) as P/M, taking over from the late Sandy Davidson.
