Nelson Stuart Hibbard, (sometimes found as Hibberd), 1885-1917. A pre-war soldier who attested 1907 into 3rd Hussars. His medal index card gives serial number 489 and rank Corporal. Gazetted 1916 as 2nd Lieutenant 1st Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Killed in action 14th July 1917 in Belgium.

Not found his attestation document and would like to discover more about his earlier war service in 3rd Hussars. At an impasse and wondered if any member could please help?

Have you looked to see if held at the national archives in Kew? Should be there as an officer

Thanks again Bob. All quiet of the Western Front. Poor bloody infantry.

A "Quiet Day". Seven killed and eight wounded. It was compared to daily casualty list for the 1st Loyal North Lancashire Regiment (and all the BEF Battalions & Cavalry Regiments) in the Autumn of 1914

It would be a National Disaster in a modern operation such as Afghanistan or Iraq.
