Hugh Pattenden Posted 30 November , 2004 Share Posted 30 November , 2004 Hi, I know the Last Post is famously played every night at the Menin Gate and once (?) a month at Brookwood, but I was wondering if there are any other cemeteries/memorials where it is played on a regular basis. Thanks, Hugh.
paul guthrie Posted 30 November , 2004 Share Posted 30 November , 2004 I think it's played once a month, maybe last Friday, at Plugstreet Memorial.
Guest JOHN OWEN Posted 1 December , 2004 Share Posted 1 December , 2004 It is also played at Winchester Cathedral at the 'Turning of the Pages' ceremony of The Royal Green Jackets at 11a.m. each second/third(?) Tuesday monthly.

Paul Reed Posted 1 December , 2004 Share Posted 1 December , 2004 Rudyard Kipling paid for it to be played every night at the Loos memorial, a ceremony that seemingly ended when Kipling died. It was done by a local Frenchman and obviosuly in memory of his son, John, who is named on the memorial.
Hugh Pattenden Posted 2 December , 2004 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2004 Thanks Paul. I'd heard of the Last Post bing sounded at Dud Corner, but didn't know that Rudyard Kipling was paying for it. Hugh.

paul guthrie Posted 2 December , 2004 Share Posted 2 December , 2004 Hey Aurel, I'm happy to get the day of the week right! Have you seen it? Do they use bugles or trumpets? Who plays? How are the crowds?
YPERITE Posted 2 December , 2004 Share Posted 2 December , 2004 Every first Friday of the month, a short ceremony takes place at Ploegsteert Memorial at Ploegsteert. Please find below some photographs. http://www.greatwar.be
Aurel Sercu Posted 2 December , 2004 Share Posted 2 December , 2004 It's possible that the link in the previous posting by "Yperite" doesn't work, or does not lead directly to the webpage. Hopefully this will work : http://www.wo1.be/ned/evenementen/erbij/20...t0110/body1.htm That was 1st October 2004. But I don't know if this ceremony 2 months ago was representative of other Ploegsteert Memorial Last Posts. (Sorry, Paul, I have to admit that I have never been there.)
