Guest jonny956 Posted 14 May , 2003 Share Posted 14 May , 2003 Dear all, I am trying to research a relative who was KIA on Friday 2 Jun 1916 on the Western Front. Captain Arthur Mapleton Hallett was (according to eye witnesses) shot in the head whilst artillery spotting. He was a member of D Bty 125th Bde RFA. The trouble is, I can find nothing on this Unit anywhere on the net. The Brigade does not exist in any listing that I have been able to find. I have examined the Unit War Diaries at the PRO, and although he is mentioned in the February, he is not listed as KIA/wounded etc (whilst others are). Can anybody help. Any information would be welcome. Kind rgds Jon
charlesmessenger Posted 14 May , 2003 Share Posted 14 May , 2003 There is no mention of 125 Bde RFA in Gen Sir Martin Farndale's History of the Royal Artillery. D Batteries in each brigade were, however, armed with 4.5in howitzers, while the other three batteries (A,B,C) had 18pdrs. Charles M
Sgt York Posted 14 May , 2003 Share Posted 14 May , 2003 Jon, I've checked the ORBAT as of 11/11/1918 for F & F, there is no listing of a 125th Bde RFA. Ronnie.
Guest jonny956 Posted 14 May , 2003 Share Posted 14 May , 2003 Dear all, 125 Brigade RFA amalgamated with another (124 or 123?) in Aug 16 to form an entirely new Bde. The CWGC site confirms Capt Hallett as being with D Bty 125 at the time of his death. Thanks for the assistance. Rgds Jon

I can see no indication of any similar changes in Nov 1917, but individual men could still have been posted at any time. These batteries were all equipped with the 18-pounder field gun. The war diaries of four brigades are in the same file in the National Archives at Kew: WO 95/2521 123 Brigade Royal Field Artillery 1915 July - 1919 Feb.
