algy Posted 13 May , 2016 Share Posted 13 May , 2016 I am thinking of purchasing the linesman maps DVD for the Somme, could anyone please tell me if this works well on a laptop with Windows 10 installedand if there are any unforseen problems that I may encounter. Chris_Baker Posted 13 May , 2016 Share Posted 13 May , 2016 It does work with Windows 10. I use it on my laptop on a daily basis and have never encountered problems with it. As with any software, you will of course need to be sure you have enough disk space to accommodate it.
algy Posted 13 May , 2016 Author Share Posted 13 May , 2016 Thanks Chris, I really appreciate the information. My laptop failed so I had to purchase a new one and made sure I had 8 GB memory and 2 TB hard drive so hopefully i should be Ok.!.
ChasMalmesbury Posted 14 May , 2016 Share Posted 14 May , 2016 I have both Linesman 10 & 20 which in combination provide coverage of not only the main battle areas but also neglected areas of British activity and rear areas. The licence enables you to load a copy onto a tablet as well, especially useful if GPS enabled - I use modern Michelin 1:200,000 maps and the tablet has come in handy when moving down tracks not shown, it's amazing how little the layout in rural areas has changed. algy Posted 15 May , 2016 Author Share Posted 15 May , 2016 Thanks Charles, yours and Chris's comments have helped make up my mind to go ahead and purchase the Linesman 10 DVD, it obviously as the title suggest covers the main Somme battle area but perhaps you could tell me how far back do the maps cover as the Linesman information does not appear to give precise coverage, do they provide maps on the disc covering the Laventie or is that on a different disc. ChasMalmesbury Posted 15 May , 2016 Share Posted 15 May , 2016 Algy - you will not be disappointed, Lineman 10 covers Richebourg, Aubers and Radinghem covering 1915-18 and Fleurbaix 1917-18. http://www.greatwardigital.com/maps.html shows the coverage and each of the areas mentioned has several maps (not exactly sure how many as some 1:10,000 come with Linesman 20 but the first 3 areas will have more than 10 each). Sunbird Posted 18 May , 2016 Share Posted 18 May , 2016 Is the Linesman available for Mac OS?
keithfazzani Posted 18 May , 2016 Share Posted 18 May , 2016 No - but I use it with Parallels - a bit clunky but works.
Don Regiano Posted 22 May , 2016 Share Posted 22 May , 2016 In the section of the forum on using the technology I have posted regarding an issue with licences when upgrading to memory map v6 from v5 which came as part of the package when I bought Linesman a couple of years ago. I don't know what version of memory map is included in the current release of Linesman but you might want to do the upgrade to v6 BEFORE you activate any of the licences as some of them have a very limited number of activations available to you.
