Anneca Posted 28 April , 2016 Share Posted 28 April , 2016 Instalments are being broadcast just before noon every weekday on BBC Radio Ulster until October. This is about Eric Appleby, a medical student from Liverpool meeting his sweetheart Phyllis Kelly at a dance in her home town of Athlone before being sent to the Front in March 1915, and Eric's letters covering his experiences from the time he left Athlone in March 1915 to October 1916, the tail-end of the Somme offensive. After hearing this on the radio I remembered reading this amazing book called Love Letters from the Front - a collection of some 200 letters, field service postcards and telegrams. It is a timeless story of love and war edited by Jean Kelly. I have to say this book was kindly sent to me by the GWF member Don Don from whom I was so grateful to receive and now listening to the daily broadcast will gladly read again without a doubt.
