Sue Light Posted 27 April , 2016 Share Posted 27 April , 2016 Re: Gertrude Taylor: Have the CWGC now officially changed their criteria for VADs to enable those with no overseas service to be commemorated, or is this another example of an exception to the existing rules? I have written to them asking the question recently but have not received a reply. Sue

DMcNay Posted 27 April , 2016 Share Posted 27 April , 2016 Private Nuttall was identified through research carried out on the Rothesay and Bute Roll of Honour by members of the Scottish Military Research Group - I tip my virtual hat to their combined efforts. Terry Denham Posted 27 April , 2016 Author Share Posted 27 April , 2016 Sue The rules re UK VADs have been clarified to state that any VAD contracted to the War Office who died within the dates will be treated as being 'military'. This does not apply to non-contracted VADs who died in UK so not all UK VAD deaths will qualify. This is the first case we have had accepted under these revised rules. Sue Light Posted 27 April , 2016 Share Posted 27 April , 2016 Thanks Terry, I heard that it was on the cards, though it does still leave the puzzle of one or two previous commemorations. But at least a welcome change to the rules. Sue

chrisharley9 Posted 30 October , 2017 Share Posted 30 October , 2017 JACKSON, Thomas Lieutenant Colonel Indian Medical Service Died 16.10.19 Age 54 Commemorated: Indian Book of Remembrance Grave Found Wolborough St Mary Churchyard, Devon. A very odd case. He died in Melbourne, Australia. The burial register there contained a note to say that his body had been exhumed 10th August 1920 for return to England & a burial in a Devonshire Cemetery. The burial register at Wolborough contained more that enough information to confirm we had the right man.
