Karl Murphy Posted 27 April , 2016 Share Posted 27 April , 2016 This day 100 years ago Irish soldiers in the British Army on the Western Front suffered horrendous casualties in gas attacks carried out by the Germans on their positions Almost forgotten now as the fighting raged back home in Dublin during Easter Week it only received a brief mention by John Redmond in the HOC and that was it It is only in recent times that interest has been renewed in what happened this day 100 years ago I suppose in the overall course of the War it is small beer but as a microcosm of how the war on the WF went on any 'ordinary' day it is as good as any There a number of links on YouTube about it - but I cant seem to 'link' any! I attended a Conference in Dublin City Hall the Saturday before last and very interesting and indeed moving it was too

Yes I heard there was something on allright Couldn't remember where though! We had a Lady over from Hulluch at the City Hall Conference who showed us pictures of Hulluch before, during and after the War The village certainly was pulverized to bits
