midshipmanrayley Posted 25 April , 2016 Share Posted 25 April , 2016 One hundred years ago today on 25th April 1916 H.M.Submarine E22 was torpedoed by UB-18 off Great Yarmouth. Two of the crew survived and became P.O.W.'s but my grandfather's brother-in-law, Henry Thomas Skoyles, was killed. Henry was born in Great Yarmouth 27th July 1891 and joined the Royal Navy on 8th October 1907. Serving finally as A.B. 239694. He was awarded the Messina Earthquake Medal by the Italian Government for assisting in the rescue efforts whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Euryalus. Gone but not forgotten.
