I am looking for information about the Australian 1st Division, if possible to find out about the fighting at Hargicourt on the 19th September 1918.

I am looking into the career of Lt E.F. Rees, a special reserve officer who lost his legs while serving with (attached to) the 5th (army) Brigade RA

The 5th Army Brigade became an army brigade (assigned to Fourth Army) on 16

Sept 17 and consisted of the 64th, 73rd and 81st Batteries armed with 18

pounders and "D" Battery armed with 4.5" Howitzers. For the rest of the war

it was part of the following units:

Attached to 4th Canadian Division, Canadian Corps from 16 Sep to 9 Oct 17

Rest and move from 10 Oct to 26 Oct 17

Attached to 58th Division, XVIII Corps from 27-30 Oct 17

Attached to 1st Division, XVIII and II Corps from 31 Oct - 16 Nov 17

Attached to 18th Division, II Corps from 17-28 Nov 17

Attached to 63rd Division, II Corps from 28 Nov-7 Dec 17

Moving from 8 Dec-12 Dec 17

Attached to 51st Division, II and V Corps from 13 Dec 17- 13 Jan 18

Moving from 15-19 Jan 18

Attached to I Corps from 20 Jan - 19 Feb 18

Attached to 11th Division, I Corps from 21 Feb - 25 April 18

Attached to 46th Division, I and XIII Corps from 25 April - 27 July 18

Rest and Moving from 28 July - 18 Aug 18

Attached to 57th Division, XVII and VI Corps from 19 Aug - 23 Aug 18

Attached to 52nd Division, VI and XVII Corps from 25 Aug 18 - 5 Sep 18

Rest from 6-9 Sep 18

Attached to 62nd Division, VI Corps from 10-14 Sep 18

Attached to 1st Australian Division, I Anzac Corps from 15-22 Sep 18

Attached to 46th Division, IX Corps from 22 Sep - 5 Oct 18

Attached to 6th Division, IX Corps from 6 Oct - 18 Oct 18

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

  • 2 years later...

I don't want to seem impatient but I have been refreshing my screen for almost three years now, my beard has grown long and I begin to smell quite ripe.... ;-)

All I need is a pointer in the right direction :-)

Chris,

Try this link here http://www.awm.gov.au/cms_images/histories/7/chapters/19.pdf

It is Chapter XIX of the the Australian OH Vol VI,

If that doesn't work, try this one http://www.awm.gov.au/histories/chapter.asp?volume=7 which is the whole Volume.

Let me know if it doesn't work.

Regards

chris
