mancpal Posted 20 April , 2016 Share Posted 20 April , 2016 Free concert to commemorate the battle of the Somme. Taking place in Heaton Park, Manchester. Full details on tonight's Manchester Evening News website. It's free but you will need to book tickets. Features music (including Halle Orchestra), poetry, dance etc. No better venue considering about half of the 11,000 Mcr Pals lived and were trained within the park. Hope I've posted this in the right bit! See you there, Simon
Gardenerbill Posted 21 April , 2016 Share Posted 21 April , 2016 How do you 'Commemorate' one of the worst days in British Military History?
phil andrade Posted 21 April , 2016 Share Posted 21 April , 2016 How do we commemorate ? By doing just that....acknowledging the enormity of the event, and reflecting on its awful impact. The fact that it was one of the worst days in British military annals makes the case for commemoration all the more compelling. If the OP had used the word " celebrate" then, of course, most of us would recoil. Phil ( PJA)
Gardenerbill Posted 21 April , 2016 Share Posted 21 April , 2016 Phil, Agree entirely how do you do something like this without it being a celebration which would be inappropraite or maudlin and depressing. Any way here is the link: MEN
stevem49 Posted 22 April , 2016 Share Posted 22 April , 2016 We could celebrate their lives and the sacrifice they made.
